  1. I think she is comparing the life of a black slave to a black butterfly. I say this because in slavery time they had to go through alot of changes to finally be free in the world. It also tells me that i can do anything if my heart desires. That means if i want it, see it, and believe it. I can achieve it!!!!

  2. I think this song is telling you that you can do anything you want if you put your mind to it. It's saying don't change who you are because everyone else is doing something different. You should be yourself because everyone else is taken. It's saying that you're a star so go and claim you're place in the sky. She specifically said black butterfly, do I think this means every black person has "wings" or the ability to succeed from anything and we can soar high as we want in life. This song is very inspirational, so with that being said, "spread your wings and fly!"

  3. I think that this song is a representation of African Americans and their rise to greatness. I think this song symbolizes the struggles we had to suffer and go through in order to get where we are today.

  4. This song to me is about someone spreading their wings and flying away. In hopes of flying away and doing what your heart desires. When she says black butterfly she means black people should fly and be free. When the poem says "you can be another color butterfly" the poet mean you could be any color but you're not just any butterfly, you are a black butterfly. As long as you understand who you are, you can be free. Be free and let your light shine and claim your throne in the sky. To me as long as you spread your wings and keep your pride, you are who you are.~ Jimelia Lett

  5. This mostly talking about your place in this world. It's time to wake up and see the light the things people dont get we need to show what we really are not what nobody want us to be. We need to experience new life not the same life we been living all our life time. What really stand out to me the most in this song when she said you can do most anything your heart desires, Freedom comes from with understanding who you are. If you want to make good grades in school long as you put your heart in it and strive for your best. Just put god first and keep your mind on your school work. And also she said It's time to reclaim your place among the stars which means we are African American we need to get up and claim our place as African American. And also now spread your wings and strive for the best you can be.

  7. I think the song was really powerful it was describing us through the years telling how we became the people we are today. It compares us to the phases a butterfly goes through and when the Caterpillar transforms it transforms into a beautiful butterfly. Sort of like us throughout the years.
